Why you should never say 'I cannot get sick'

Okay, James has insurance, but we decided we really couldn't afford for me to have it (at $155 a paycheck--well, it just wasn't cost effective).

So I am not supposed to get sick... HA!

My ears have hurt and been itchy for a few days now. I have cotton shoved in them at the moment. I think my sinuses are draining and I am somewhat congested. Then J tells me last night he thinks he has a little bit of a cold. UGH! No wonder...

So I guess I need to go pick up some more Airborne and chug that. And start taking the Mucinex (oh joy--as if I weren't dry enough).

But, I cleaned out that little freezer yesterday. That was not so joyful either... The thing REEKS of cigarette smoke, and even worse, it's STALE!!! I wiped all kinds of nasty stuff off the outside. Smokers are absolutely D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G (and yes I hope it OFFENDS you if you are a smoker)!

The hutch we brought home from Arkansas still smells bad.

So Alicia tells me to put newspapers with gel toothpaste on them in the freezer and leave the door partly propped open and that should help with the smell. I certainly hope so. So it sits at the moment with lines and gobs of toothpaste on the newspaper trying to de-smell the thing before I use it (I really don't want my food I keep in there to taste like cancer sticks).

I'm also a smidge worried about the darn plug missing its grounding plug. So I need someone to replace it, so I don't fret about it.

So I actually got some school work done yesterday, but I have oodles more to do. I am gonna work on some again today. I also have cakes to bake, which I really need to get on.

So, until next time...

Why adult birthdays are such a let down...

...at least according to my brother...

It's the alcohol, or lack thereof...

When I talked to Bob the other night after I got done at work, I was saying something about my birthday not being nearly as much fun as when I was a kid. He said it was because I didn't have enough alcohol, oh well, guess that is the case when you don't partake.

I haven't done much of anything today... James went with Chad to Manti, to help with cleaning out Chad's dad's apartment. James got a big screen TV out of the help, he also brought home a little mini freezer. It's currently dripping on his freshly mopped floor. I guess I should get a towel to put down. I'll clean it out tomorrow, so we can plug it in and use it. I just hope it doesn't suck the power.

I also got my external hard drive plugged in and transferred a bunch of files over to it from my laptop. Here's the super cool thing... the drive is 465 GB, I still have 463 GB left after what I moved, it's HUGE!!! I'm kinda excited about that.

I guess I am gonna head for bed, I'll read for a while, should catch up on BoM, cause I am a few days behind. UGH! I cannot keep up with anything I swear.

Tomorrow, I've got oodles of work to do, scool work, house work, etc. Plus I was gonna work on some new cake recipes to see how they taste.

I'll let you know...

Until next time...

Today was my Birthday...

...na na na na na na...

Doesn't have the same affect as the tune running through my brain, but it's my blog, I'll babble if I want to.

So, I was trying to sleep in when my dear, sweet Jamus called to say he needed the coat he wears in the shop cause he is cold and did I wash it? So I told him no I did not wash it, but I would bring it to him.

Then, I came back home, checked the mail, both snail and email, I have email cards to still read, but the computer is being contrary with me so they may have to wait.

Then I went to Mom's. I'd been trying to decide where to go for my birthday lunh, and I couldn't decide. So after mom got cleaned up, we left...

First, I had to go renew my driver's license as it expired today. I would've done it by mail, but with the address on my current license being the old address, I decided I had better go in, just in case. Here is the best thing that happened all day though, as mom and I were walking in a man was leaving and telling his little boy to come on, it was time to go. As the little boy was going out, he says to his dad, "but dad, I don't want to go, I like it here, it's fun." Oh--my--heck!! I was doubled over in laughter, I thought I was gonna die it was so funny!!! It was truly worht the trip to the DMV.

That being the best, I actually now have the WORST driver's license photo of my life. I figure that isn't to bad, given it's taken me till 32 to get it, so for 16 years I didn't have a DL, for 16 years I had DLs with decent, if not attractive photos, and now, for at least five years, I will have a crummy photo. I suppose that isn't too bad. I'll just have to renew in person again so I can get a better photo next time.

The man who was in charge of taking the photos, he was really nice though. He noticed I was a bi-centennial baby (though he said centennial, I knew what he meant). I said yeah, and he said, well everything from that year is a collectable, so I must be a collectable too, I thought that was really nice. He also commented on my name, Bonita, meaning pretty in Spanish. He said it fit, so I thought that was pretty nice.

Okay, so that didn't take too long, and we were off to a little dollar store in Provo, where mom had seen in a newspaper ad they had cute vases she thought she might could use for Valentine's day gifts for home and visiting teaching families. She's going to put cookie bouquets done on bamboo skewers in them. We wandered around that store, and when we left there, I think I had finally decided where I was going for food.

As we were driving back up the hill into Orem, Cindy called mom asking if she could feed Shinook regular people food becaus e she was looking at baby food and boy was it expensive! Mom assured her it would be okay, she might just have to cook things a little longer so Shinook could chew or gum it as his top two teth haven't quite come in yet. It did soulnd like Cindy was doing a little batter dealing with Mexico Harmohnee's passing.

Oh, and mom totally blew my deaths or bad things come in threes, because Grandma Donna had sent my b-day card to mom's house with a letter for mom and in it told mom Fran Miskimins had died. Fran was Toby's wife. So, now I'm at four, which means either my theory was wrong, or I now have two more to go somewhere. I'll keep a few others in extra prayers, or something.

Okay, so Mom and I ate at Carrabba's Italian Grill. I had the grilled salmon with spaghetti pomodoro. The salmon was good, but I didn't like the sauce they put on top of it, so I scraped it off. Mom had chicken with prosiccutio (spelling?) and cheese and mushrooms, she eats mushies when she can and Jim isn't around. I just hope the tomato sauce on the spaghetti we both had doesn't kill her tummy later. We both had Italian salads and Italian Cream Sodas, mom's was chocolate, mine was raspberry. No room for dessert, course we started with zuchinni fritte, that was pretty tasty too.

After we left there, we ran over to Costco, to pick up a few things. I needed eggs and powdered sugar so I can make some cakes. James needed Prilosec, he gets as cranky without that as he does with out his anti-anxiety med. Then we went to Archiver's to the Rubber Stamping Basics class. I needed it for training and I asked mom if she wouldn go with me--as what I wanted to do for my b-day. It was fun. We learned stuff from that. We walked down to build-a-bear so I could show her the cute polar bear. I'm thinking I might get that for Shinook for his birthday, I just have to decide which one to get for James (and that is J2) for is birthday. I already got Mackenzie's.

Anyway, I really should be getting to bed. I am supposed to sub at a middle school for a French teacher tomorrow. Then I work at Archiver's. I'm closing and there is a mania tomorrow night, so I'll be there till midnight (not so thrilled about that). But I love that job, a lot. I kinda hope I could get the FT supervisor/event coordinator position. I'll have to talk to Elaine about it. I also have to see about making sure she doesn't schedule me on Tuesday nights... since that's when I teach Wilton classes.

Until next time...

Third death isn't the charm...

Remember how I said deaths come in threes...?

Well, today it happened. My friend Jenny called, her dad had a heart attack and she is at the hospital with him. No he didn't die... But her husband, Chad, he went home to get some rest, well then he got a phone call, his dad died. Can you say suck-ee day for them? But there's my third death, so no more.

And as an aside FYI, James' parents in Arkansas, they were not hit by any of the bad tornadoes they had yesterday and are okay.

Always good to know...

Until next time...

Feeling a little Blah...

So mom calls me this morning to tell me sad news...

Mexico Harmony died. Har-moh-nee (so you can pronounce it more correctly)... is the Korean word for Grandma. She was half-Mexican and half-Korean and married to the Bishop of Dale and Cindy's ward in Texas (now there's a sentence with all sorts of issues, mostly, too many prepositions). She had an aneurysm on Friday and passed away. Cindy was very close to her and is not taking this very well, especially since her own mother is ill and not doing as well as she could be. So it is always nice to wake up to the news of someone's death.

But then I got thinking, this is the second death that affects me in some way, President Hinckley's was the first, so really, I have one to go... They always come in threes.

So it keeps me wondering, who is next? And then James will tell me not to think like that... I think he is always afraid it will be someone closer... As long as none of the potential long range tornadoes don't take out any of his family members in either Arkansas or Missouri, we should be okay. I won't say more about that, for one reason and one reason only...

"I'm in a hospital, what could go wrong...?"--from Hot Shots

And if you don't know what happens after, well, you'll just have to watch the movie to find out.

I'm just hanging around now, dragging my feet about going to bed. Listening to the political mucky-muck on the TV, not that I can stand it, but it's hard to avoid...

I did vote today in the primary. Like mom said, a lesser of the evils vote. Course I had to figure out which precinct I was in as they moved my polling location. Usually I vote at Forbes, but today I went there, found out they weren't polling there, and had to call the county office to find out which district I am in so I could figure out where to go to vote. I ended up going to the high school. Then, they were kinda snooty (not totally my polling site, but everywhere) about whether or not you were registered as independent or unaffiliated. If you were going to vote democrat, that was fine, but if you were going to vote republican, you basically had to fill out a new voter registration form and declare yourself as a republican. UGH!!! I believe I am with mom, screw this two party system, it doesn't seem to work very well anyway. I mean look at all of the yay-hoos we have had running for president for two years now!!! But that should tell you something about the current administration, like IT SUCKS!!!

Okay, I seriously have to get off the soap-box. I did go with James to see his P.O. today. Hopefully, everything said and done he will be free in April--I hope, I hope, I hope. I'm so sick of this nonsense. That's another aspect of our so called wonderful system that really doesn't work as our forefathers imagined it would. But then I guess it tends to be better than other potential systems. Actually I believe our system has been perverted by the red-tape bureaucracy and nonsense that congress and the respective state legislatures have heaped upon it. That and the judges who get a small taste of the power and let it go beyond their heads and over inflated egos.

Sorry, soapbox again... It's so easy to get up there, I have such a height complex...

I had a new course three class begin tonight. Students I have had before, so it was fun. We are covering cakes in fondant next week. I promised them I would bring a cake to do with them, so I have to be sure I get one baked and such...

Okay, I guess I'll go to bed. I want to read some of the Book of Mormon so I can stay on top of my challenge. I'll update my chart tomorrow. I charted my progress this morning, but I didn't copy the link over to here.

Until next time...

James' Flower

So we did the survey for James, he came out a tulip. You can read below to see why...

You Are a Tulip

You have a wild, experimental side that craves change.
You often switch jobs and lovers, always looking for something better.
But deep down, you're also very well grounded and content.
And you will come to know that the life you live is already ideal.

The Hinckley Challenge

So I just signed up for the Hickley Challenge. I even put my progress graph here on the blog as well. We'll see how much I get done, or how quickly...

The idea is to read the Book of Mormon in 97 days (one day for each year of President Hinckley's life). This is being done by many in memory of President Hinckley. He told us on a number of occassions how important it is to make the Book of Mormon a large part of our lives. He is not the only President of the Church to magnify the importance of reading the Book of Mormon and using it as a guide for our lives. Previous Prophets have extolled us to do the same.

So here you can track me, if you go to www.hinckleychallenge.com you can sign up for yourself.

The challenge begins tomorrow, February 4, 2008. The ending date, 97 days later is May 11, 2008. I think this will allow us to strengthen ourselves, our testimonies, and as a people-Saints following Christ's teachings.

Until next time...
